Can Bathroom Ceramic Tile Be Painted?

You can add a painted finish to ceramic bathroom tile if you properly prepare the surface prior to application. Unlike drywall, untreated ceramic tile is ill-suited for adhesion. If you add paint to under-prepared ceramic tile, the new finish will eventually flake. Learn the proper way to condition ceramic tile for better adhesion. Choose a particular paint based on the location of the bathroom tile.

How to Refinish a Tile Floor

Tile floors, particularly in the bathroom, do an excellent job of providing a water-resistant surface. Some of these floors are so well-installed and the tiles are in such good shape that it just doesn't make sense to replace them. However, the floor tile may be an ugly color or it may have developed wear spots that have become discolored and never look clean, even when the floor is spotless. It is possible to refinish or reglaze a tile floor. Most of the time a tile floor is reglazed along with the porcelain tubs, walls, commodes and sinks. This is a cost-effective way to produce a uniformity of color and appearance.

Ceramic Tile Refinishing & Resurfacing

Though beautiful, ceramic floor and bathtub tile can become dull and worn. Instead of retiling, refinish or reglaze your existing tile---a much more cost-effective solution. When done properly, resurfacing can result in tiles looking like new, and the finish may last even longer than the glaze on the tiles after installation. On the other hand, a poor resurfacing job leaves tiles looking lackluster, and the glaze begins to fade quickly. If you decide to refinish tile, take the proper steps to do a job that will last.
